Although overcast, the trip upriver towards London was really enjoyable with a commentary from the crew that told us about how the shoreline had changed over recent times, and pointing out where, not so long ago, one would have seen a hive of activity and industry along the river. As we neared London, in amongst the new apartments and housing estates, he pointed out some old inns where long dead famous people were known to frequent, as well as homes of people whose names we might be familiar with. Then in central London we were looking from left to right as all the places of interest crowded together.
After 37 miles, by which time we were near Battersea power station, the river cruiser turned round, the sun came through and we enjoyed a brighter and very warm trip back to Gravesend. An altogether enjoyable day.
